Auburn star Chuma Okeke left Friday’s Sweet 16 matchup in the second half after suffering what appeared to be a serious left knee injury while attacking the rim. Okeke’s leg buckled as he started to go up for a shot, and he was in severe pain on the floor.
After being looked at by trainers, Okeke was able to stand and walked off the court, and was taken for further evaluation in the arena. In a great display of sportsmanship, a handful of North Carolina players approached Okeke to wish him well as he left the floor.
Okeke, a sophomore, was phenomenal in the rout of the Tar Heels, leading Auburn with 20 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 8-for-11 from the floor before going down with the injury.
Auburn coach Bruce Pearl broke down while talking about Okeke after Auburn pulled off the upset.
