Selena Gomez is returning to social media following a three month hiatus.
The singer and actress, 26, reflected on the obstacles she overcame last year in a touching Instagram post Monday, which was accompanied by three black-and-white photos of herself.
“It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support,” she began. “Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth.”
The Disney alum continued: “It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.”

Gomez has been open about her battle with depression after undergoing a kidney transplant donated by “Grown-ish” actress Francia Raisa in 2017 to treat complications from her lupus diagnosis.
Raisa told Self last year that they both experienced a difficult recovery from the surgery: “Selena and I both went through a depression. … She had some complications with hers, and she has bigger scars than I do that (weren’t) expected.”
In December, Gomez appeared happy and healthy while spending quality time with friends in the snow in one of her first public outings in a few months.
