The NBA trade deadline is Thursday at 3 p.m. ET, so business is busy right now for GMs and owners.
Apparently it’s so busy in Dallas that the Mavericks couldn’t wait until Wednesday night’s game was over – or until at least Harrison Barnes wasn’t on the court – to announce that Barnes had been traded to the Sacramento Kings.
Yup, that’s right. The veteran forward, who is somehow only 26 years old, was on the court, playing in a game against the Hornets when he got dealt. That’s pretty cold. He did finish with 10 points in 26 minutes in his final start, however.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news that Barnes was being traded to the Kings for Justin Jackson and Zach Randolph, which was announced during the game:
That’s a bit awkward.
Social media – including NBA superstar LeBron James – had some feelings on it:
Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle discussed the trade in his opening remarks following his team’s win, and had nothing but kind words to say about Barnes.
