Ole Miss players kneel for national anthem on pro-Confederate rally day

OXFORD, Miss. — At least six members of the Ole Miss basketball team knelt during the national anthem before Saturday’s game against Georgia.

A pro-Confederate rally was taking place in Oxford at the same time.

As the Rebels were preparing for the game, almost 100 pro-Confederate supporters gathered in town to protest the University of Mississippi’s past actions to remove Confederate emblems and songs, as well as the discontinuation of mascot Colonel Reb.

The march included two pro-Confederate groups: Confederate 901 and The Hiwaymen. It started at The Square in Oxford and proceeded to the Mississippi campus, where protesters gathered around a Confederate soldier monument.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
