A 3-year-old boy who had been missing since Tuesday was found alive on Thursday near the home he disappeared from in eastern North Carolina, authorities say.
Casey Hathaway was playing with two other children in his grandmother’s backyard in Ernul, North Carolina, when he went missing, according to Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes.
The search for the boy had been hampered by heavy rains and strong winds. Authorities had also been worried that the child was not appropriately dressed for the cold temperatures.
The boy was found alive and good health, according to a Facebook post by the Craven County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday.
An FBI release says the boy was found by professional search and rescue crews in Craven County in eastern North Carolina.
Earlier Thursday, the sheriff’s office described the search area as dangerous: “The terrain is treacherous. Areas are flooded and filled with sinkholes, even the trained searchers are having trouble navigating safely.”
There were no signs that the boy had been abducted, Hughes said at a news conference.
